Omar Z. Baba, MD, is a clinical pathologist and pathology informaticist based at Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Michigan. He is recognized for his leadership in advancing laboratory medicine through digital innovation, specifically in the areas of laboratory information systems (LIS) integration, technical infrastructure for advanced testing, and operational analytics. Dr. Baba earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut and completed a specialized fellowship in pathology informatics at Henry Ford Health.
In his professional capacity, Dr. Baba is deeply involved in national pathology organizations and committees. He is a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Informatics Committee and has co-hosted the “Horror Stories in Pathology Informatics” podcast series, which focuses on laboratory patient safety. He is also the founder and co-chair of the Path Finders section (formerly the Young Physician Section) of the Association for Pathology Informatics (API), providing a platform for early-career pathologists to collaborate on digital transformation projects.
