Robin Theresa Petroze, MD, MPH, is a pediatric surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School. As of 2025, she serves as the Director of the Center for Global Surgery within the Department of Surgery, where she also holds the position of Vice Chair for Global Surgery. Her clinical practice is based at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, where she specializes in neonatal surgery, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive procedures for children.
Dr. Petroze is a prominent figure in the field of global surgery, dedicated to improving surgical access and health equity in low-resource settings. Much of her work has focused on Rwanda, where she conducted the first nationwide assessment of surgical capacity for the World Health Organization and helped develop tools to measure the global burden of surgical disease. Her research investigates the barriers to surgical care and seeks to build sustainable training partnerships between academic institutions in the United States and international health systems. In addition to her clinical and global health roles, she is the Surgical Director for the Mott Solid Tumor Oncology Program, integrating her expertise in pediatric cancer with her commitment to surgical innovation.
