isha Jibril Suleiman, MD, is a pioneering Ethiopian pathologist who serves at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) in Addis Ababa. She was instrumental in establishing anatomic pathology services at SPHMMC, serving as the inaugural head of the department when clinical operations began in 2014. Under her early leadership, the department launched an anatomic pathology residency program in 2016, significantly expanding the country’s diagnostic training capacity.Â
Dr. Suleiman is actively involved in advancing oncological research and diagnostic standards in Ethiopia. Her research includes the study of tumor heterogeneity using emerging proteomic tools like imaging mass cytometry and investigations into the genetic underpinnings of triple-negative breast cancer within African populations. Beyond her clinical work, she is a contributor to international academic discourse on global pathology, advocating for improved access to diagnostics and collaborative research efforts across Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2025, she remains a key figure in the Ethiopian medical community, continuing her work in histopathology and the education of new medical specialists.
