Ihsan Mohamed Osman Abdelhalim, MD, is a distinguished Professor of Pathology at Alzaiem Alazhari University in Khartoum, Sudan, where she also serves within the Department of Pathology. She is a consultant histopathologist with extensive expertise in oncopathology and gastrointestinal diseases. Her academic and clinical career has been dedicated to improving the understanding and diagnosis of cancers and infectious diseases specifically within the Sudanese population.Â
Dr. Abdelhalim’s research portfolio includes significant studies on the clinicopathological and molecular-genetic profiles of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and extra-nodal lymphomas. She has also contributed to specialized research regarding the prevalence and clinical correlations of the basal-like phenotype in breast carcinoma cases from Sudan. Beyond oncology, her work has touched on public health challenges in the region, including malaria responses and the impact of conflict on health infrastructure. As of 2025, she remains a key figure in Sudanese medical education and pathology research, training postgraduate students and advancing diagnostic standards despite the ongoing humanitarian and healthcare challenges in the country.
