Manal El Mahdy, MD, PhD, is a Professor and the Head of the Department of Pathology at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. She also serves as the Head of the Presidential Committee of Pathology for the National Initiative for Early Detection of Breast Cancer, a key component of the Egyptian government’s broader healthcare strategy for women’s health.Â
Dr. El Mahdy specializes in oncopathology, with a significant clinical and research focus on breast and gynecological cancers. She is an active leader in the Breast-Gynecological & Immuno-Oncology International Cancer Conference (BGICC), one of the largest specialized cancer conferences in the region, where she frequently leads workshops on immuno-oncology and predictive pathology. Her research involves investigating tumor-associated macrophages, chemotherapy impact on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and molecular markers for cancer resistance and progression.Â
In addition to her work at Ain Shams University, she holds several senior administrative roles, including serving as the Head of the Pathology Department at the Nasser Institute for Research and Treatment. As of 2025, she remains a prominent figure in Egyptian medical education and a leading advisor on national diagnostic standards for early cancer detection
