Associate Professor, Al Neelain University, Sudan
Salwa Osman Mekki, MD, is a prominent Sudanese pathologist and academic who serves as an Associate Professor of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, Al Neelain University. In her clinical capacity, she is a consultant histopathologist at Soba University Hospital and the Radiation and Isotope Centre Khartoum (RICK). Dr. Mekki plays a vital role in medical education as an examiner for the Sudan Medical Specialization Board, where she oversees postgraduate MD candidates in pathology and basic sciences.
Her research contributions focus heavily on the histopathological landscape of Sudan, with a particular emphasis on oncological patterns such as breast cancer, colorectal carcinoma, and retinoblastoma. Beyond her clinical and academic work, she has been instrumental in shaping national health policy by serving on advisory boards that authored the Sudanese national guidelines for the management of breast and prostate cancers. She further demonstrated her leadership in the regional medical community by serving as the General Secretary for the 2012 Congress of the International Academy of Pathology’s Arab Division.
