Professor, Department of Pathology, University of Michigan, USA
Simon John Warren, MBBS, is a Clinical Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Dermatology at the University of Michigan Medical School. A board-certified dermatopathologist, he specializes in the diagnosis of complex skin diseases, including melanoma, skin lymphomas, and histiocytic disorders. He joined the faculty at Michigan Medicine in 2024 after serving for 16 years at Indiana University, where he held the positions of Dermatopathology Division Director and Fellowship Director.
Dr. Warren began his academic career as a classics scholar at Cambridge University before pursuing medicine and earning his medical degree from the University of London. His current research and clinical interests focus on the integration of advanced molecular techniques, such as next-generation sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, into the diagnostic process for cutaneous conditions. In addition to his domestic work, he is a dedicated advocate for global health, having led initiatives to establish dermatopathology laboratories and training programs in resource-limited regions, including Nepal and Tajikistan. In 2025, he continues to balance his clinical sign-out responsibilities with the mentorship of medical students and fellows at the University of Michigan Department of Pathology.
