Dr. Thomas Brenn is Professor of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School and Director of Dermatopathology within the Department of Pathology. An internationally recognized dermatopathologist, he specializes in the diagnosis and classification of melanocytic lesions, melanoma, cutaneous adnexal tumors, and other complex skin neoplasms.
Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Brenn held academic appointments at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Calgary, where he contributed extensively to dermatopathology education, research, and clinical practice. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) and has authored nearly 200 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and reference works that have advanced the understanding of skin tumors and diagnostic dermatopathology.
Dr. Brenn’s research focuses on melanocytic neoplasia, melanoma, cutaneous adnexal tumors, and diagnostic challenges in dermatopathology. Through his clinical, academic, and educational contributions, he has become a leading voice in the field, helping to shape contemporary approaches to dermatopathologic diagnosis and patient care worldwide.
